Physical Therapy
Pelvic floor physical therapy is recommended for individuals with abdominal or pelvic pain or bowel, bladder, or sexual dysfunction. See this list for examples of potential concerns.
At your first session, we’ll conduct a comprehensive initial examination. We want to get to know you, to understand your concerns and how they affect your life. We want to learn about your medical, surgical, orthopedic, and pain history—but we also/equally want to know about your wellness history, your exercise and stress management preferences, and what treatments have helped you in the past. We will assess your body function with a thorough hands-on assessment and evaluation, including: muscle tone, texture, flexibility, strength and balance; joint mobility and posture; motor patterns and coordination; nervous system function and pain patterns. We’ll begin your treatment with instruction in targeted exercise, strategies for activity and movement, and manual therapy techniques designed to improve your body’s function. This thorough first session informs our collaborative plan of care customized to you and your life. Let’s make some goals—and meet them.

Consult
Consults are for asking questions and gathering information. Consultations are usually a 5-30 minute phone call, but we can meet you in person if that works better for you.
Most of the people we talk to about pelvic floor issues suspect they have a pelvic floor issue, but haven’t heard of pelvic floor physical therapy or didn’t realize there was something they could do about their issue beyond medication or surgery. Then, there are a lot of people who have chronic issues and have already seen five different specialists, had multiple surgeries, and find it hard to believe that physical therapy could help after all those other avenues didn’t. If you are curious about the pelvic floor and how it relates to you, let’s talk.
